William H. Donaldson, chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, addressed almost two hundred television journalists yesterday at an awards luncheon in the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Plaza in New York. Before the speech, note cards were distibuted on which the audience was invited to write down their questions for the chairman.
The speech was excrutiatingly long and dull. You can't even imagine. He used this "top ten" gimmick to list his top concerns for the SEC, and each item on it was a mini-speech by itself. The dude droned for what must have been the longest half hour recorded outside the torture chambers of the Cheka.
After the luncheon, our agents collected many of these cards from among among the dirty napkins and empty wine glasses. The notes reproduced here were not written for the chairman's eyes, but to amuse and comfort others at their authors' tables.

See below for more reactions to chairman Donaldson's electrifying oratorical style.
